Portfolio Story
What started out as an appreciation of youthful literature and storytelling turned into passion projects to allure strangers back to the nostalgic feelings garnered through the practice and artistry of storytelling.
The Essence of Being is a literary arts portfolio that celebrates the diversity of storytelling. Expanded to a combination project of written narratives, interviews, photography, and podcasting that pays homage to the humans behind the stories, their storytelling figures, their heritage, and birthrights represented in the portraits. Our goal is to showcase our world's morphing sonder--our collective realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as one's own. Eccentrically, demonstrating the distinction of human experience through the craft of storytelling. We believe that everyone has a unique life story, and we aim to showcase those stories through our platform. Join us on this journey of exploring the world of literature and the human experience.
Creator, Researcher, Enthusiast.
Lovely to meet you! My name is Myeisa Barnhill
I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut with an Honors Molecular & Cellular Biology major, Social Justice Organizing minor, and Africana Studies minor. Most of my work is at the overlap of civil rights activism and STEM, with a passion to study marginalized people in clinical settings. I believe in order for STEM to thrive, so must the diversity of its people. By listening and implementing actionable change, we increase equity, justice, and deepen our connection to varied human experiences. When I’m not reading/writing poetry, playing a sport, traveling, studying countless textbooks and scientific journals, crafting research proposals, or micropipetting and/or manipulating DNA in a lab, I’m doing my best to help others find the same happiness and fulfillment that I’ve found in my work. If you'd like to know more, check out my LinkedIn, Résumé, or send an email below.
